Domain Name System
A hierarchical decentralized naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. Its most fundamental purpose is to transform domain names into IP Addresses (work which it delegates to Authoritative Name servers) but also takes care of associating other information with Domains and Subdomains, in an authoritative manner. See, in particular, DNS records.
